It should be a while before I see Dr. Death So it would sure be nice if I could get my breath. Well, I'm not the crying nor the whining kind till I hear the whistle of the three oh nine of the three oh nine of the three oh nine. Put me in my box on the three oh nine. Take me to the depot, put me to bed, blow an electric fan on my gnarly old head. Everybody take a look, see I'm doing fine, then load my box on the three oh nine, on the trio nine, on a trio nine, put money in my box on the trio nine. Kiss me hard. Water, sweep my yard. Give a drink of my wine to my Jersey cow. I would give a hell for my jersey now on the trio line. On the trio line. I hear the sound of a railroad train. The whistle blows, and I'm gone again. It will take me higher than a Georgia pine. And back, children. It's a three-oh line. It's a three-oh nine. It's a three-oh nine. Put money in my box on a three-oh nine. A chicken in a pot, and turkey in a corn. Ain't felt as good since Jubilee Moore. Talk about luck. Well, I got mine. Write me a letter. Sing me a song. Tell me all about it. What I did wrong. Meanwhile, I will be doing fine. Download my box on a three-o nine. On the three-o nine. On the three-o nine. Gonna get out of here on the three-o nine.

Email me. Lastly, we've got a tune by Bob from his 1962 Abu album. I absolutely love it because the energy and the sheer hill billiosity is truly amazing. It's called Freight Train Blues from his first album. But we're gonna start you off with Roy Acuff and the Wabash Cannonball.

Wabash Cannonball - Roy Acuff

SPEAKER_26

From the greatest planting ocean to the wide Piscindic shores, from the Queen of Glowing Mountains to the south mills by the shores. She's mighty falls and so many wild lights. She's on the national wallways and the fall. She came down from Birmingham on Toby's face. As she rolled into the station, you can hear all the people's face. There's a girl from Tennessee, she's long and she's tall. She came down from Birmingham on the hallways and the fall Eastern States and so the people always say. From New York to St. Louis and Chicago five away. From the hills of many soul the way the rippling waters falls. No changes can be taken on that fall-fashioned and a fall. Here's the daddy collects away, his name forever stands. And always be remote, round the force of mouth of mouth. His earthly races over, which carry home to victory on all-flesh and fall. As she glides along the woodland through the hills and by the shore.

And when we crows this big white mountain, we'll watch old 97. It's a mighty rough road from Waysburg to Danville, and lined on a three-mile grave. It's on that grave that he lost his eye break. You see what a jump he made. They were going down the green, making 90 miles an hour. When his whistle broke into a scream. He was found in a red wings, and the throttle was called to his must be And a telegram came to Washington City, and this says hi and praise The brave engineer that runs all night seven is lying in old and bullet. Now you ladies, me take warning from this time I am learn. Never speak harsh words to your true loving husband.

When that rock out of line train gets by, that agent gentleman's gonna talk back to the Depot Agent with his whistle, and this is what he's gonna tell him. I thank you. I thank you. I thank you. That little rock out of the line train is getting on down the road. Oh, the rock out of line, it's a mighty good road, or the rock on a line, it's a road to ride. Oh the rock on the line, it's a mighty good road. If you won't use to ride, you gotta ride it like you find it. Get your Titans on the Rock on a line. Jesus died to save our sins. Glory to God, we're gonna meet him again. Oh the rock on the line, it's a mighty good road. Oh, the rock on the line, it's a road to ride. Or the rock on the line, it's a mighty good road. If you won't lose to rides, you got to ride it like the finding, get to take you that station on the rock on the line. I may be right and I may be wrong. You wanna miss me when I'm gone. Or the rock on the line, it's a mighty good road, or the rock on the line, it's a road to ride. Or the rock on the line, it's a mighty good road. If you won't lose the ride, you got to ride it like you finally get your ticket, that's station on the rock on the line. Or the rock on the line, it's a mighty good road, or the rock on the line, it's a road to ride. Or the rock on the line, it's a mighty good road.

Rock Island Line - Lonnie Donegan

SPEAKER_29

That is here's a story about the rock on the line. Now the rock is a line is a railroad line and it runs down into New Orleans. All the trains that go through the tow gate, but you gotta be a man. Unless of course they got certain things on board. Okay, they don't have to be right now. We see the train coming on down the line. We should get up here to the tow gate, the uh the depot agent shout down to the driver. He wanna know what he got on board. So he's saying uh what you got on boat? In the driver. Sing right on back down to the depot agent telling what he got on boat. I got the sheep, I got the cows, I got horses, I got the pig, I got all the livestock on all the livestock, live stalking a man. Say, Wally say, You all right then, boy. You don't have to pay me nothing, just get him on through. So the train goes through the tall gate, and as he goes through, he got up a little bit of steam and a little bit of speed. When he sees me on the other side of the tour gate, the the driver shouts back down the line to the man. Of course, you don't get what he says now, going home and going down the rock island line.

SPEAKER_02

Just everybody a foo do, a food do, I've got pee-dion, I've got peak iron, I've got a tick on down the rock island line. Yes, yes, it's a mighty good rope. Oh, when the rock kind of died, it's the mighty good rope. The rock kind of dye needs to roll to find it. The rock kind of died, the money to roll, and you won't touch the body on the rock that's not me, you'll be right back.

Donegan’s Gone - Mark Knopfler

SPEAKER_04

Let me down, no money look like an Irish man. Welcome up, still in the bosom. All on it, on it, on it goes on. On it on it, don't it go? Lon it on it, don't it go?

Freight Train Blues - Bob

SPEAKER_07

I was born in Dixie in a boomer shack, just a little shiny by the real road trick. Fred training also taught me how to cry. Home another drivers and the live eye. I got the free train blue. Oh Lordy, mama got him in the bottom of my rambling shit. I wanna whistle blows, I get to go, baby. Don't you know? And it looks like I'm never gonna lose a free dream blue. Well my daddy wasn't fine, and I'm on my hair. She was the only daughter of the engineer. My sweet I love a break, but they know a joke. See me the way she keeps a good meal broke. I got the three train blue Oh Lord mama, got him in the bottom of my line. So when I whistle blows, I get to go. Oh my, but don't you know? And it looks like I'm never gonna lose a fresh train blue. Well, the only thing that makes me laugh again is a southbound whistle on the southbound train. Every place I wanna go. I never can go because you know I got straight train blue. Got him in the button of a rambling shoe.

Break

SPEAKER_00

I I'm sorry, I there's not enough that I can say about that dude. I just absolutely love it. Anyway, right now we are going to get we're starting off with the Rolling Stones with a thing called Silver Train from the Coach in 1971. Now this is kind of interesting. And it happened more than one. I have a friend who's absolutely loving this thing. So the fact that I picked this version over the song is actually really. And I did not realize this. I didn't know that Billy Bragg had done so many covers. But this is actually a cover from a band called The Count Bishops. But we are starting you off with the Rolling Stones and Silver Train.

Silver Train - The Rolling Stones

SPEAKER_18

See I'm a train in the comet. I come get on the hair. Yeah. Say I'm a train in the comet. I come to get on the hair.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_18

Yeah.

Love in Vain - Faces

SPEAKER_01

Continue and give you one just a bit slower. This one, this one we've done many times before. An old stone's number. And we'll probably dedicate this one to Mick as he's no longer one of us. Those who are not married. Love in vain. God bless his socks.

SPEAKER_18

In my head.

Break

SPEAKER_00

Coming up next, we've got a little bit of a hot pod for you. First of all, a band that I think is incredibly underrated, and that is last of the power train. This was recorded about two months after the trains were retired from passenger service in the UK. After that, another underrated band just because they're considered one hand wonder and because of the nature of that one hand. The name of the band is The Vapors, and the name of the song is Trains, and the name of the album is Nuclear Days, and the name of their head was, of course, turned into Japanese. However, give these guys a chance. They're a really good band. Just listen to the bass line and it's absolutely okay. After that, we've got Bob again from his 2012 album campus. And the name of the song is New Hammed Whistle. And again, the song just uh sounds like a train. You hear the music and and uh it just uh we're gonna wrap things up with uh from the boat, and uh it's a tune called Boat Train from the Reason Love album. Now, for those of us in the United States where we don't have a lot of really good math transit, a boat train is kind of a package train that takes you to a boat or a ferry that'll take you to another train. Uh one of the most interesting ones, uh, I think from the boat point of view is there is one where you can go from standing on a three corner in London standing on a three corner in London in about ten hours, which I think is pretty amazing. Anyway, that's a bow train, but we're gonna start you off with the last of the power train.

Last of the Steam-Powered Trains - The Kinks

SPEAKER_14

Like the last of the good old upper train. I'm the last of the blood and sweat brigade.

SPEAKER_18

So I'm okay.

SPEAKER_14

I'm the last fashion stinks.

unknown

Oh, I should be on the last time.

So here I stand, I'm just awaiting for you. Everybody I know, I fish my dreams. Everybody I know fits the same explains. I play your games, I turn around, I pick my heels, I count the ground. I watch another lonely man. Oh, but there's something in the air that says I'm in the right place. So I gaze at the crowd, I'm tryna find a right face. And there it is. Everybody I know has to face the dreams. Everybody I know makes the same mistakes. There's a hole in the ground that seems to eat me up. I can't say enough about the two of us. My arms are buried again.

unknown

I can't hold you with no. No, I can't hold you wake up. No, I can hold you wake up. I couldn't fight the feeling that you can't buy trains. Cause I know Nobody takes slappy.

SPEAKER_10

Hey, Porter, hey Porter, would you tell me the time? How much longer will it be to we cross that Mason Dixon line? At daylight, would you tell that engineer to slow it down? Or better still, just stop the train, cause I wanna look around. Hey, Porter, hey, Porter, what time did you say? How much longer will it be to like and see the light of day? When we hit 60, would you tell that engineer to ring his bell? And ask everybody that ain't asleep to stand right up and yes, hey Porter, hey Porter, it's getting light outside. This whole train is buffing smoke, and I have to strain my eyes. But ask that engineer if he will blow his whistle, please. Cause I smell frost on cotton leaves and I feel that southern breeze. Hey, Porter, hey, Porter, please get my bags for me. I need nobody to tell me now that we're in Tennessee. Go tell that engineer to make that lonesome whistle stream. We're not so far from home, so take it easy on the steam Hey Porter, hey Porter, please open up the door. When it stops this train, I'm gonna get off first, cause I can't wait no more.
